Aloha Friday

It’s time for the Aloha Friday question again! Sheesh, this week went by too fast. Anyway, in my last post, I wrote about some of the quirks I discovered about Utah Valley after relocating there from Southern California. So, my question to you is:

What are some unique, interesting or quirky things about your local community?

You mean other than keeping shotguns on a rack in the back window of your pickup truck or spitting tobacco wads at your feet? Not much. *grin*

    Yes it’s true – I’m from hicksville.

Hmm…crappy customer service, people trying to con you on a regular basis with fake sob stories, the horrible accent (rood for road, clewsed for closed). Wait, did you want to hear nice things?
Yes, there are nice things about this place. Like….um….
    like….
Oh, all the greenery/trees and pick your own farms.
    sigh
Can you tell I’ve dealt with some meanies as of late?

Albuquerque is one of the oldest cities in the country, older even than most of the stuff on the East Coast. It was named after a Spanish duke. There are petroglyphs here, and Indian peublos that are still inhabited. If you want to visit a pueblo, you first have to take an ettiquette course, I kid you not! Great question.

This might be the same everywhere but when I moved from the OC to my little town 30 years ago the population was maybe 2,500. It’s now 25,000 and bumper to bumper houses. I like rural much better than city.

What’s cool about Phoenix,Arizona, is it’s the SouthWest! ‘Gunfighters, GhostTowns, and the Grand Canyon’
Quirky, Phoenix has become home to so many CA transplants like myself. Moving from OC, to here, in the last couple of years, Phoenix, is trying to compete, with fancy restaurants, malls, and other forms of entertainment just like OC, even the price of houses out here are becoming just as expensive.
The only thing that I miss is not having a beach to go to, lots of rain, and green grass, which we don’t have living in this desert.
What we do have are tons of golf courses.

I think you could eat at a different fastfood/nice restaurant every day for a year without eating at the same one! We live in a Four States area where everyone comes into town for the weekend from all over!

    Have a great weekend!

this is a great question. I think I’m going to post on this soon. I moved from LA to FL and have not recovered yet but I’m starting to find the little “gems” that keep me happy. It’s taken awhile but they are there…..
I have to compile a list and get back to you!

Well… Not every town has a cow on the roof of the local market! And about HALF of our county is named Bowen!

Oh, my gosh . . . this whole town is exceedingly funky from its motto, “Livable, Lovable Lodi,” to the smell of Cheerios wafting along a summer evening breeze if you happen to live downwind of General Mills (I do). Here’s a list of fun things to do if you are Stuck in Lodi (yes, the Creedence Clearwater Revival song was written about this city):

Um, the first thing that comes to mind is the excruciating number of Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, ModBe, ModBod, ModWhatever Undershirts Galore, Scrapbook, Makeup, Shoe, and other sheeeeeeite PARTIES you get invited to on a monthly basis. Utah is home to most of the MLMs in this world. Not that I’m complaining, I actually believe it’s a very viable way to do business. Just sometimes feels a little saturated around here, no?

    hi there,
we have moose everywhere. it is common to see a big moose or a moose and a baby moose out and about in normal life in our city neighborhood community. i have seen hundreds of them over the years, but i still am awed by it everytime. it is cool!

guess what? hey, i want you to know i have really been enjoying you and your notes. thanks for stopping by in my world occasionally. blessings this night my sister, kathleen :)

What is unique and interesting in our local community is our majestic view of Mt. Makiling. It is a beautiful mountain and if you look long enough, you’ll notice that it is shaped like a profile of a woman, said to be Maria herself (a legendary figure).

My little town is so much like Mayberry from the Andy Griffith show!!

I think what’s interesting about my community is that there are so many different ethnic cultures living here that no one is a minority!
